A mobilised Russian soldier training in western Russia took three officers and five enlisted men hostage after finding out his nephews had died while fighting in Ukraine, Russian media channels have claimed.
Russian Telegram channel Baza reported that a 35-year-old mobilised trainee, armed with a machine gun and grenades, took eight hostages in the village of Plavna, Bryansk region, this week.
The village is located roughly 15 miles from the northeastern Ukrainian border.
According to rosZMI, the 35-year-old, mobilised from the Samara region, learned about the death of his nephews who fought against Ukraine.
Heavily armed, he then took three officers and five enlisted men hostage, promising to use his weapons on them. He did not make any demands.
The man locked himself in the town’s cultural centre together with the hostages. The commander of his military unit tried to negotiate with the violator.
The incident lasted about an hour before the uncle surrendered and released the other soldiers.
