Soldiers and dancers performed for African heads of state invitedto the festivities by col Gadaffi,who's the longest-serving leader in both Africa and the Arab world. Ceremonial horsemen stood on their horses as a displayof their skill at a lavish event put on at a military field outside the capital. In the other planned display over the next week handreds of dancers musicians will chart 12,000 years of Libya's history. Once regarded as a pariah by West,Colonel Gaddafi began a return to the international fold after Libya took responsibility for the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am plane over the Scottish town of Lockerbie. But the hero's welcome given in Tripoli to Lockerbie bomber Abdel Ali Mohammed al-Megrahi after his release by Scottish authorities last month has angered many in the US and the UK.
