On 4th August, participants in a large-scale demonstration calling for Prime Minister Hasina’s resignation clashed with police, leaving nearly 100 people dead.

Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced in a television address that Hasina would leave the country and that an interim government would be established in the future. According to local reports, Hasina flew to India in a military helicopter.
