中国官媒在推特上公布了一段轰炸台湾本土和其周边海域的动画演示，以显示北京打击其所称的“台独”的决心。不过，这段动画很快因其发出的恫吓信号而引来大量负面评价。
星期一（4月10日）中国结束了在台湾海峡为期三天的军事演习，这被认为是对台湾总统蔡英文与美国国会众议院议长麦卡锡见面的回应。在演习的第二天（4月9日），中国央视在其新闻节目上展示了一段用数十枚飞弹“精确打击”台湾的动画。这段动画在同一天被《环球时报》发布到了推特上，并获得了中国官媒人员以及外交官们的转发。
《环球时报》特约评论员、前主编胡锡进在推特上写道：“那些支持‘台独’的人应该看看这段由中国解放军东部战区发布的军事演习动画。‘台独’意味着战争，这已经是台湾问题上的政治常识！”
对于北京的耀武扬威，台湾总统府发言人谷辣斯·尤达卡（Kolas Yotaka）周日在推特上回应道：“70架中国战机和11艘军舰过去24小时里围绕我们。我们在守卫我们的国家，我们永远不会放弃我们的信念。”

中国自从80年代起便一直强调要对如今民主自治的台湾进行“和平统一”，但也承诺不放弃使用武力。美国情报机构曾表示，尽管没有确定的计划，但习近平已经命令解放军为2027年攻打台湾做好准备。
“北京这个周末通过演习、模拟攻击、用至少71架战机飞越台湾海峡对台湾进行了事态升级，”咨询公司“战略风险”总裁、前驻华记者石宇（Isaac Stone Fish）写道。“需要密切观察这片区域。”

智库全球台湾研究中心（Global Taiwan Institute）创办人兼顾问叶介庭（Chieh-Ting Yeh）则指出，中国发布的这段动画显示出北京才是鼓吹武力的那一方。
“这就是一个自诩的‘和平超级力量’对一个小国领导人出访作出的反应。竟然还有人声称台湾才是在鼓吹战争，”他反问。

除了这段动画发出的威胁信号，许多人还发现动画中的飞弹绝大多数都未击中台湾本土，而是落在了海里。
新加坡南洋理工大学海洋安全研究员许瑞麟（Collin Koh）写道：“呃，该怎么说呢，尽管解放军在情报、监视和侦察以及瞄准能力上有进步，但这一堆导弹里只有两枚击中了台湾岛，其他剩下的绝大多数大概都用来杀死了。。。海洋生物？”

中国这场为期三天的军事演习在法国总统马克龙结束对华访问后立刻开始。马克龙在上周的行程中不仅没有就人权、台湾等问题与北京进行严肃交涉，据报道还大加称赞了习近平对他的款待以及两国的友谊，并发布了一段短片展示他这次访问中的高光时刻。这让马克龙受到了国际关系和安全问题专家的批评。

不过，并不是所有专家都担心中国对台湾的入侵或许迫在眉睫。
华盛顿智库大西洋理事会安全战略中心副主任马修·克罗尼（Matthew Kroenig）就指出：“中国说它‘为战斗做好了准备’。但事实上它的军事演习模拟的是封锁，而不是入侵。这暗指解放军还没有就外界最担心的对台军事行动做好准备。”

台湾国立政治大学助理教授、美籍学者南乐（Lev Nachman）也表示，就和去年前美国国会议长佩洛西访台后的情况一样，他见到的台湾普通民众并没有为这场军事演习感到担心。
“一点都不夸张，中国解放军的威胁对台湾民众生活的影响是多么地小，”他写道。“人们继续着日常生活，和往常一样。几乎没有什么公众恐慌情绪，就像2022年8月的时候一样，人们基本上对演习没什么感觉。”
